On Monday I was unable to hold my weekly meeting for constituents in Darndale due to the BESC offices being unable to open. Later I attended Le Chéile in Donnycarney at 12pm and met with constituents there. I then went to the Board meeting of the Northside Centre for the Unemployed, of which I am a longstanding Director.
On Tuesday, a representative from my office attended the briefing by the Endometriosis Association of Ireland. I called for a debate on this important matter but it has been rescheduled to next Tuesday the 17th of December. I attended the Budgetary Oversight Committee meeting and we discussed our Post Budget 2020 report which we hope to complete next week. The Budgetary Oversight Committee and Parliamentary Budgetary Office have been two stand out developments in the 32nd Dáil and I am very proud to have been part of bringing them about. On Tuesday evening I spoke on the OECD Report on SMEs and Entrepreneurship Policy.
On Wednesday I raised Dr Johnny Connolly’s important report ‘Building Community Resilience – Responding to Criminal and Anti-Social Behaviour Networks Across Dublin South Central A Research Study’ and again called for greater resources for our Gardaí. I also spoke on the Statements on the pre European Council meeting taking place this week and I highlighted the Multi-Annual Financial Framework that is being discussed, Ireland’s contributions to the EU Budget and other important financial and economic matters. Ireland’s net contribution to the EU is rising rapidly and will significantly increase if the UK leaves the EU.
On Thursday I spoke on the Supplementary Estimates 2019 and highlighted the constant under-spend in the Health Service and the continuing need for Supplementary Estimates for Vote 38 (the Health Vote). I called for realistic costing and budgets for the 2020 HSE Service Plan. I also asked the Tánaiste about his department’s efforts to bring about a two State reality in Israel and Palestine.
My newsletter, Northsider Vol 27 No 4, will be delivered around the constituency from next week and information on my office and clinic hours over the Christmas and New Year period will be shared on this website early next week.
As always, videos and transcripts of my contributions on the floor of the Dáil are available on my website.
