BLOG FOR WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 14TH

On Monday I held my two information clinics in Darndale and Donnycarney.  For a large part of Tuesday afternoon, I attended the Seanad Reform Implementation Group meeting and debated possible amendments to the Report and the Bill.  I have since submitted my own annex and minority report to the group.  I asked for the 60 members of Seanad Éireann to be elected by all the people on the same franchise and similar constituencies to Dáil Éireann.  I also attended the Budgetary Oversight Committee which was discussing the failure to make adequate provision for the Health Budget.

I submitted Dáil motions on Homelessness and on the report of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council which will hopefully be discussed in the New Year. On Wednesday morning, during oral Parliamentary Questions with the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, I asked about climate friendly transport and the measures he is taking on climate action.  Later that evening, I spoke in strong support of the Solidarity/People Before Profit Anti-Evictions Bill 2018 which I was delighted to see pass and be referred on to the Housing Committee.

I had submitted amendments to the Local Government Bill 2018 calling for the inclusion of a directly elected Dublin mayor but these amendments were ruled out of order but I called again for a Mayor elected by all the people of Dublin.  On Thursday evening, I spoke against the Aircraft Noise (Dublin Airport) Regulation Bill 2018 which would designate Fingal County Council as the Competent Authority charged with monitoring noise at Dublin Airport.  Many constituents have complained to me over the years, and more recently with the construction of the new runway, about noise pollution from aircraft movements and I proposed that the Environmental Protection Agency be the independent noise regulator for the airport.

I am holding my information clinics as usual this weekend, tonight (Friday), tomorrow (Saturday) and on Monday in Darndale but information clinics will then not be taking place for the Christmas period until Saturday the 5th of January 2019.
