BLOG FOR WEEK ENDING MARCH 1ST

On Monday, I posted a note to my website and facebook to inform constituents that my Saturday information clinics in Donaghmede are now at the earlier time of 10.30am and that my mobile information clinic is in Donaghmede Shopping Centre carpark itself (near the Newbrook Road entrance to the shopping Centre).  I informed constituents that due to these changes in access to parking at Donaghmede, I will now also be at Clonshaugh Shopping Centre from 9.45am and then Bayside Shopping Centre for 12.30pm.

On Monday morning, as well as my usual Darndale information clinic, I also visited Belgrove Senior Girls’ School and met with Principal McCarthy there.  On Tuesday, I sent my Northsider Vol 27 No 1 to the Oireachtas designer and hope to distribute it during March.  On Tuesday evening, I spoke on the Withdrawal of the UK from the EU (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019, the ‘No Deal Brexit’ Bill which our Government officials have been preparing as contingency planning is ongoing.  It is a disgrace that the UK Parliament has put us in a position to have to be prepared for the UK crashing out of the EU with no deal by the 29th of March.

On Wednesday, I questioned the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs about our next EU Commissioner.  I then raised my constituents’ deep concerns about gun crime and the clear need for a Garda station in the North Fringe with Taoiseach Varadkar during Leaders’ Questions.  I attended the Budgetary Oversight Committee and questioned Central Bank official about our preparedness for a No Deal Brexit.

On Thursday, I asked the Minister for Finance about revised estimates and whether the government will introduce a second budget this year.  Later that evening, I contributed to a Topical Issues Debate, alongside other Opposition Deputies, on the NASRA/PNA Ambulance Service strike which is about workers’ right to be represented by a union of their choosing, amongst other working conditions issues.

On Friday, I visited St. Michael’s House in Artane to examine accessibility issues that were highlighted to me.  I will be making strong representations to the Council on urgent remedial matters.
