Deputy Broughan met parents and pupils of Scoil Chaitríona Cailiní in Measc Avenue, Artane following the devastating fire there in the early hours of this morning.
Deputy Broughan says, “I was informed by shocked parents that nine classrooms has been destroyed and that the library and hall were severely damaged in the fire. When I attended the site, the Junior School also remained closed while An Gardaí Síochána and the Fire Brigade ensured the location was safe.
The whole Coolock/Artane community has always deeply appreciated the outstanding service of Scoil Chaitríona staff and community over many years. They hope that the affected buildings will be urgently rebuilt and restored.
I am now calling on minister McHugh to urgently arrange accommodation for the affected pupils, including any temporary classroom provision, while the damaged buildings are reconstructed. I welcome the report that the Department of Education has already dispatched an architect to Scoil Chaitríona.”
