Deputy Broughan has welcomed the news that allotments in Belmayne will soon be open for use to residents in the North Central area. Dublin City Council has been preparing the site over the past number of months.
Recently in Dáil Éireann, Deputy Tommy Broughan asked Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, about how cuts to the social welfare budget next year will affect vulnerable citizens. Deputy Broughan focused on the abolition of the bereavement grant, cuts to the exceptional needs payments (ENP) scheme and cuts to Jobseeker’s Allowance for the under 26s.
Deputy Tommy Broughan has said carer’s allowance applications are still taking too long to be processed. He was responding to information he received from Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, in a response to a parliamentary question.
The planned closure of pharmaceutical company, MSD Swords, with the reported loss of 570 jobs down to 2017 is a shocking blow to North Dublin and Fingal. I understand that employees have been informed this afternoon that 130 employees are to lose their jobs in 2014 (starting mid-year) and that the site will be phased out as a production facility by 2017.
