HOGAN MUST IMMEDIATELY MEET PRIORY HALL RESIDENTS -BROUGHAN
Dublin North East Deputy Tommy Broughan has called on Environment Minister Phil Hogan to immediately meet the Priory Hall residents before the Dail resumes next week.
Deputy Broughan said, “It is astonishing that Minister Hogan has not yet met the residents of Priory Hall given the horrific ordeal that the residents continue to undergo after being forced to leave their homes because of the serious fire safety and other defects in the complex.
“Many of the residents who are still in temporary accommodation are very anxious about their future given the upcoming Supreme Court case liability for the cost of temporarily rehousing Priory Hall residents (during the period when the building is supposed to be remediated). The developer Tom McFeely and DCC are pleading inability to pay these costs. Owner occupiers in particular are greatly concerned that they may end up paying the mortgage on their homes in Priory Hall as well as the rental costs of the temporary accommodation.
“Minister Hogan and his Department simply must finally step up to the plate and address all of the outstanding financial and legal issues facing the Priory Hall residents.
“Given that it this is undoubtedly one of the greatest disasters ever to hit the Irish housing and construction industry, it is extremely disappointing that Environment Minister Hogan has not met Priory Hall residents and I am again urging the Minister to meet with the residents as a matter of priority over the next few days. Hopefully, he will be able to announce the details of such a meeting when the Dail resumes next week.”
