POLITICAL ASSISTANT required by the office of Tommy Broughan TD of Independents 4 Change

Key duties include public policy analysis and support for legislation and political organisation

Job specification for the above position:

The successful applicant will:

have a qualification and a keen interest in politics, economics, law and public policy development

be required to assist Deputy Broughan in drafting legislation, Dáil motions and policies in his work as an elected representative. Excellent research and writing skills are therefore essential, as is the ability to work on your own initiative to tight deadlines.

have a keen interest in developing political organisation at local, constituency and national level for Deputy Broughan and Independents 4 Change.

be computer literate with a good knowledge of social media and with good and accurate typing speeds, ability to proof read with excellent attention to detail.

have some experience of working independently and delivering projects to a high standard and on time.

on occasion, assist with the running of Deputy Broughan’s office and attend meetings on his behalf and with him.

identify strategic priorities for the national budget and related public policy development and work with Deputy Broughan to produce submissions on same.

assist Deputy Broughan in developing proposals for changes in public policy that will have a positive impact on people’s lives.

work with legal/economic advisors and other specialists and experts to develop legislative proposals for public policy.

prepare policy statements, submissions, summaries and reports incorporating international best practice and with evidence based recommendations and assist in developing new policy and legislative positions and papers.

liaise with appropriate external agencies, civil society groups, voluntary organisations and experts in the research and preparation of such policies and papers.

assess the impact of legislation and policies on people and follow economic, social and demographic trends.

support constituents with collection of data via parliamentary questions, submissions and stakeholder meetings.

assist the Deputy with research projects and develop relevant and timely reports which will include the monitoring of all relevant information outlets.

contribute to ongoing campaigning meetings and events to advance a progressive political agenda.
